Odd issue with Storage Server 2003 |
|
|
I have run into an odd issue with Microsofts Storage server 2003 and XP
Pro with SP1 or 2. From my XP workstation I am not able to see all the
files that are there. If I go more that 3 sub directories down, I
start to see this behavior inconsistantly. I am able to put in the
full path to the folder or file, but I do not actually see the file in
windows explorer nor from a command prompt.
But logged in as the same user on a 2000 workstation I am able to see
all the files and folders normally.
I have checked permissions, event logs, firewall setting(it is off).
Also when testing I created this path \root
folder\folder1\folder2\folder3\folder4\folder5.
Everything was normal until I opened folder3, folder4 was not visible.
But after I created 3 other folders a,b,and c I was able to see
folder4. a,b,and c though were not visible.
Anyone else experience something like this??? |

Does the problem reproduce if you use the command line (i.e. is it isolated
to Explorer)? Also, have you run a spyware check on the XP machine(s)?

Did some more testing.
At the 4th sublevel (share root\folder1\folder2\folder3\folder4) it
seems to take 3 items(files or folders) to then see the original
directory or folder inside that level. I am then able to see any file
or folder created after the 3 along with the original directory. This
behavior continues on down the structure. |

Pat,
The problem is reproduced via a command line. It will have the same
behavior where using a dir command will show the directory as empty,
but if I explicitly use cd folder4, it will open that directory and for
some even see the files inside.
I have run the MS spyware product and Spybot, both where updated before
running. |

I would recommend opening a support case w/MS. This will likely involve a
pretty deep troubleshooting effort.
