Failed Hard Drive |
|
|
I'm getting my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop's hard drive and motherboard
replaced today by a Dell Tech. Running XP Pro SP1/Office 2003. I have a
SimpleTech External HD that I'm going to copy files over to from my old
laptop HD onto the new HD after it's replaced. My old HD is physically
failing (scraping)...there's no viruses or spyware. I do not use
Outlook/PSTs. Only Word, Powerpoint, & Excel. I have the Windows XP Pro
installer CD. What OS files do you recommend that I transfer from my OLD
WinXP OS onto the new WinXP OS hard drive? Thanks in advance for your
responses! |

I would perform a fresh install of XP on the new drive. Then patch the OS,
then install all of your favorite applications, then restore your documents.
I would not recommend coping anything from your previous XP operating system
except for your documents
