2003 chkdsk |

Hi all,
Getting a lot of "replacing invalid security IDs" in my 2003 Server. Just
copied a load of files (20gig ish) from an old Netware server accross to it,
using robocopy. Have then applied permssions and set the owner user
xcacls.vbs. I now get the Replacing Invalid ID on about 200,000 files when i
chkdsk /v the drive. I have a (horrible) feeling that if I were to actually
do a /f on the drive it would replace all the permissions with the default
(sys:f,. admin:F) which would make a horrible mess of everything as its the
main file server here.
The symptoms I'm getting are similar to:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=873437 and / or
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=327009
But these only list 2000 as affected. Though the former was post-sp4, so did
it make it into 2003 server ?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;831374 sort of
applies, though there aren't that many files on my server and the MFT is way
less than 4gb (Kb states only affects servers with more than 4,194,303 files
or MFT > 4gb)
Anyone any ideas how I can remedy the security info? I've tried forcing all
permissions back down again using explorer on all the files on the volume,
yet it still comes up with errors (which strikes me as odd, surely explorer
should set them correctly). It would be nice if it listed file names instead
of "file nnnnnn" so I had a hope in hell of actually figuring out what is
wrong. I could obviously run chkdsk /f, but as it seems to be working fine
at the moment, I'd rather not have to go through the directories and sort
permissions out.
Incidentally, for anyone that remembers, I had this issue a while back after
I'd copied a load of data from a different netware server. That server then
had all the data copied to the current one, and was formatted. This "fixed"
the problem. However copying more files from the netware server has broken
it again. I really dont want to have to build another server just to sort
out this drive
help please :)
Thanks.
