Windows 03 Cluster

Postby tomjdon » Sat Nov 05, 2005 1:17 am

I have two servers a Dell PowerEdge 2650 and PowerEdge 2850 can they be
clustered using Windows Advanced server 2003? Should I accept any issues with
the diferent hardware?

Yes they can be clustered. Just ensure that your load on an active /
passive configuration doesn't exceed 100% of one node. i.e. 50% load on
each server may be 120% if all on the 2650, but only 95% if all on the 2850
server.

HI Eric

Thanks

PS I'm also going to use a Dell – EMC CX-(don't have the specific model#)
raid is this going to cause me any issues?

It should work, but the real question should be will it be supported. Here's
an article which describes what differences your cluster nodes can have and
still maintain MS support:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814607

In general, it is a bad idea used different hardware if you're attempting to
achieve a highly available system.

John

that shouldn't have any effect on the balance of the hosts. The CX array is
a great solution for a cluster.
