Windows 03 cluster (Second) |
|
|
I was given the wrong server info last time!!! any idea's if this can be done?
In need to cluster a Dell PowerEdge 2650 and PowerEdge 6850 using Windows
Advanced server 2003? Wil I run into any issues with the diferent hardware? |

You should post your message to the clustering group -
microsoft.public. windows.server.clustering
That said, cluster systems are certified by System, not individual machines.
So, while it is possible to build a heterogeneous MSCS cluster (the software
won't block you), it is not supported. So far, I have only seen one
instance where the use of different machines was inherently a show-stopper
and that was in the virtualization space.

Thanks for the heads up about the post location. I did follow up with Dell
and they asured me that this configuration would not be a problem.
Thanks again.

Again, here's an article which describes what differences your cluster nodes
can have and still maintain MS support:

While you will be able to cluster these two servers, you will need ensure a
proper load distribution. In other words, if the 6850 is the primary node
in an active / passive cluster, and hold 50% CPU utilization, the 2650 may
not be able to handle the load. The 6850 can have up to 4 physical CPU's,
where the 2650 only has 2.
