Changing delfaut path of program installtion files |
|
|
Good Day,
I am wonding is there is a way to change the default path from C:program
files to D:programs files. I have a small 5 GB drive that I just want to run
windows on and then have my program files and docs on D:. I know I can
change it everytime I load something to d: but wanted to know if I can move
the target to D:
Your assistance is appreciated

It's my understanding that some applications (Outlook Express for one)
will not run if the Programs Files folder is not on the same logical drive
as the operating system. Given that, your best bet is just to change the
install drive to D whenever you're given that option. For a long time I
maintained a system that had Program Files folders on drives C and E.
Doing so was no hassle, especially since most re-installs or upgrades will
locate the original install location automatically.

Hi, Marc.
Sorry I'm a month late into this thread. You probably already solved your
friend's problem. But, for next time, and for anybody who is "reading over
our shoulders"...
I don't recall if IE/OE's program files can be on a different volume, but
its Store Folder (where it keeps all the email and newsgroup messages)
certainly can be. In OE6, click Tools | Options..., and then the
Maintenance tab. Click the Store Folder button and follow the instructions
to put the data into E:\OEStore - or wherever you choose.
