I have an Exabyte library w/ one AIT-1 drive and would like to know if
it's possible to upgrade that drive to AIT-4, or would I need to
replace the whole library?

You would have to call Exabyte to find out. My guess is that you would
have to buy a new library for the drive. We have a AIT-2 Cybernetic
library here and we couldn't upgrade the drives to AIT-3 due to the
voltage and firmware differences.
