Brand New D610 and old HD accessed thru USB |
|
|
I have a brand new Dell 610 and the hard drive from my old IBM Thinkpad. Have
connected it thru USB and would like to use it as an external HD for storage.
The external HD is partitioned. One has the program files etc, the other my
personal data.
Question: Can I delete all program files and use that space for extra
storage or do I need to leave something on the HD so I can see it and access
it? In other words: do I need some kind of program or something, or can I
indeed delete evrything I see (including hidden files) and the HD is
basically just "dumb".
Thanks much for your help. |

If you can see your old hard drive via this USB connection, then yes you can
use it as a normal hard drive w/o issue.

Hi Eric,
Thanks much for the reply. I guess I wasn't clear: yes, I can see the 2
drives (HD is partitioned) thru the USB, but I'm not sure if it is okay for
me to delete all windows files etc that are currently on the HD. Will I still
be able to see it, even if I delete all the windows files? Sorry, I'm not
very experienced with these things and just want to make sure I don't disable
the HD by deleting stuff I shouldn't.
Thanks much.

At this point in time, the windows files on that external hard drive are
just data. It won't effect your operating system on your internal drive.
Also deleting the files won't disable a drive.
