Is this normal (an "Apps" folder in Local Settings) |
|
|
I found I have a new folder in my local settings folder which I have never
seen before, it is called "Apps" and there are a few subfolders, all
empty.....
Here is the complete path: "C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXXXXX\Local
Settings\Apps\2.0\C2LTEW7B.Y3E\V9M4070W.JD4\manifests"
If I delete the folder, I notice that I can immediately get it back in one
of two ways (that I know of): a) right click on START and select "search" or
b) left click on START, select "search" and then enter a criteria in one of
the fields (note, Apps folder is not created until I enter criteria, with
option "a)" it is created immediately upon selcting "search")...............
SAV, Adaware, Spybot, etc all come up negative....
I have never noticed this folder before and I think I would have, especialy
since it sticks around through a reboot. Thanks.

It is weird that it only started happening a week ago, but I guess as long
as it is not a virus or anything I am OK with it. I figure I should prolly
not muck around with ".Net Framework 2.0"

No to 'Apps', yes to 'Application Data';
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data
%userprofile%\Application Data
are part of a default user's profile.

For what it is worth, I found that if I rename the "microsoft.net" folders in
Program Files and in Windows directories, the problem goes away. The "2.0" in
the path seems to refer to Microsoft.Net Framework 2.0

Not sure but it could be the "isolated storage" features. Basically a .NET
application can be allowed to access a "private" storage area without having
access to somewhere else on the hard drive.
It could have been installed by an application that requires this runtime.
You could also came accross an application that uses it and you would have
to reinstall. I would just left this installed...
