System and cluster share storge in the same channel

Storage system on Windows.

System and cluster share storge in the same channel

Postby Farmer » Mon Dec 05, 2005 9:16 am

Dear All

May I place the system an cluster share storage in the same channel?

The system is from SAN boot so it can be in same channel with cluster share
storage.

But in my test, it did not work unless I separate into two channels.

Is it the limitation of operation system?

There are additional requirements for this to work:

1) Only Server 2003
2) Storport drivers only
3) Configuration must be supported by the vendor obtaining cluster
qualification - clusters built without obtaining the logo are not supported
by Microsoft.
4) special registry settings are required:

start from a SAN so that the startup disk, the pagefile disks, and the
cluster disks are all on the same SAN fabric

Dear Jeff

Many many Thanks.

I find the same KB and tested well.

Actually I use DiskSafe from FalconStor to replicate system disk and cluster
data disk to
another backend storage in real time.

And try to booting system from the replica for fast recovery, system and
cluster service
and Exchange is recovery from replica well.

At the moment, System disk and cluster data disk is in the same channel that
both connect
from backend storage.

I tested adding the register key in standard cluster storage configuration
that system and cluster
disk separate in different channel. It looked good and no error in event
log.

Will it have any issue to add the register key in standard cluster storage
configuration?

There shouldn't be any harm adding this key in the separate channel case but
clustering will perform extra steps. I'm assuming you have tested failover
of the cluster configured this way?
