Storage Server 2003 and NAS questions? |
|
|
I'm setting up a small workgroup. There are a few access databases and files
that need to be shared. There is no IT department so a full blown server is
out. So I was think a NAS with storage server 2003.
1. Can the backend of an access database run from a NAS like this?
2. Can you buy Storage Server and build your own NAS/Disk Array or is the OS
only for OEM's?
3. And last how simple can Storage Server be? I need to set it up with
mirrored raid and map my drives and forget about it, i.e. no checking logs,
permissions, and reboots?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. |

1. Yes.
2. OEM only. I think that there are 20 or 30 OEMs that sell various
versions at various prices.
3. Most systems come with a mirrored OS partition and a RAID5 data
partition out of the box. For setup, you generally need to set the IP
address, Machine Name (optional), and join a domain (optional). So, other
than checking to see if the drive lights are green (good) or red (bad),
that's pretty much it. Also, most of the vendors provide some type of
backup solution as well. For those that don't NTBackup is included.
