WSS Backup Solution |
|
|
Hi All,
Looking for input on the following idea we have for assisting in data
consolidation and backup:
- Would like to use a NAS (Dell or whatever) running WSS 2003
- Backups using Veritas BUE 9.1 to a Compaq SSL2000 Library
Run backup of SQL db and file shares to to NAS disk using BUE. Run
weekly backup of this data on NAS to tape for offsite storage.
Does anyone know if this, namely BUE 9.1, would work? Boss is eager
to spend his quarterly money, but I'd rather know if such a simple
configuration is used out there somewhere and what pitfalls might be.
Thanks,
Jeff |

That seems like a fairly straightforward use of NAS for disk backup/nearline
backup (and then archiving.)
As far as I know, Backup Exec 9.1 is supporte on Windows 2003 - but check
with Veritas of course.

BEWS 9.1 fully supports WSS 2003. The only issue would be the SQL DB. This should either be done A:) as a flat file with the SQL DB shut down or dumped to a flat file or B:) using the SQL agent which is licensed separately
