have a redirected "my documents" folder which has documents disappearing from within on windows server 2003 (local machine running windows xp)....the folders within my documents remain with no problems ...it's just the files that are at the "root" of the my documents folder and prior to a certain date....it just happened to me again today...the documents modified in this folder from 5/7/04 or later are still there...everything else is gone...HELP!

It sounds like a synchronization issue. When you are not seeing the files, are you connected to the server via LAN? While connected, from the My Documents window, click Tools | Synchronize and let it sync. Se if it shows all the files now.

One other question... is your organization using any quota management or archival software on that particular server?
