Many DSP companies are outside London.

With your experience in mobile phones you might look up companies such
as Sony-Ericsson and Nokia, both of whom have large R&D sites not far
from London. Details will be on their web sites.

You might also try the various business, science and research parks -
these are all over but I know of them in Surrey, Cambridge and Oxford
especially.

These are the key points. London is *not* the place for electronics
jobs. The Thames Valley, a little south into Surrey, and Cambridge are.

you can approach possible employers in advance.

The original poster's idea of a two week search seems unrealistic. This
is the UK we are talking about. Nobody even wakes up to notice you've
applied in just two weeks. :-\

interesting fields at decent rates of pay.

When I escaped the UK, most of the engineers I knew asked if they could
come with me. :-) ... OK, take the smilie away. Its fairly accurate.

My suggest is look somewhere else. The main ambition of most UK
engineers is to escape.

Thanks for your valuable informations otherwise it is daunting to read
the views from other group members about to work in England as a DSP
Software Engineer.

Is Germany is better than Engalnd & French?

I have not worked in London (or the UK), so dont take me too seriously: I

you are very particular about London and are intersted in the world o
Operating Systems(I see your high-level language skills set as a
indicator here), then you might want to try Symbian Software. They ar
world leaders in the OS market for mobile phones. They are convenientl
located in the central london area of Southwark(pronouned south*ark*, wit
a vengeance!). Quite a nice place I would think for an engineer.
