help needed for ntldr |
|
|
Hi everbody,
Accidently I erased the ntldr file, auoexec.bat, ntdetect.com from the main directory. When I boot a
message says "NTLDR"file missing press ctrl+alt+delete.
Is there a way to restore these files by copying them from another computer to this one.
I tried to do this by using the A: drive but everytime I tried to copy these files a message says
Äccess denied" and the copy command is not possible.
Can I use PC Anywhere to transfer these files from a computer to this one.
Thanks for the help.

Boot the recovery console using your cd and copy the files. |

You would have on the 'source' computer to use Explorer - Tools - Folder
Options - View to uncheck 'Hide protected mode files' and to show Hidden
and system ones. You could then copy in explorer in the ordinary way.
The other end though might be more difficult if it is an NTFS disk;
easier is to Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD
and, instead of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any
password requested is blank, and TAB over.
In that, assuming the CD is seen as D which is likely, give
COPY D:\i386\ntldr C:\
COPY D:\i386\ntdetect.com C:\
You may then find that you deleted boot.ini as well; if so recreate from
a similar boot by giving
BootCFG /Rebuild
You do not need an autoexec.bat, which XP normally ignores anyway. If
there was one it was created by the installation of some legacy
application for its own benefit, and you would have to restore in the
same way
