(Disk Size/1k)

There is no hard coded limit. Each folder takes up ~1k of disk space
(ACL's, descriptors, etc.) and most GUI apps (e.g. Explorer) limit path
length to 260 (NTFS can handle up to 32k path length but you have to
programmatically access the longer paths).

i would like to make a change to my statement from before.. there is no
folder limitation to create. the size of your hard drive is the amount of
space you ahve to create folders and such.. as the gentleman said before each
folder takes approximately 1k of space

Hi, Jeff.

I know nothing of servers, but the number of folders is limited by the FILE
system (NTFS vs.. FAT), not by the OPERATING system (Win2K vs.. Win2K3 vs..
WinXP).

This page from the online version of the WinXP Pro Resource Kit deals
specifically with WinXP, but it should apply to all the current versions of
Windows:
Size Limitations in NTFS and FAT File Systems
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prkc_fil_tdrn.asp

Note that the limits are per "volume" and there can be multiple volumes on a
single physical drive.
