I am setting up a new network to replace our Novell
network and I had some questions about the Volume Shadow
Copy service. Please keep in mind that while I have done
research on this service, I have no practical experience
yet. My plan is to setup three servers; one primary and
one for backup and AD redundancy purposes and the third
in a remote building for AD redundancy. My plan is to do
standard differential daily backups directly to the
backup server. I then plan to use VSC for the weekly and
monthly full backups. I would use VSC to copy from the
primary server to the backup server's internal disk
array, then back that up to backup media. Could those of
you with more experience with this service tell me if
this plan is workable, or if VSC is not really meant to
be used in this fashion? How long would VSC take to
replicate a volume of about 100 gig? It looks as if my
Arcserve software supports VSC, although to what extent I
am unsure at this point? Is anybody using Arcserve and
care to comment on this? TIA
