Browsing Files on Server with Win2000 Pro is quick, WinXP Pr

Postby j.t.w » Fri Oct 15, 2004 12:15 am

Hello,

Please let me know if this is the wrong group to post this question.
If it is, where should I post?

I have a folder containing 10,000 .tif files (roughly 700MB total) on
our NT Server. Using Win 2000 machines it takes less than 5 seconds to
display the contents of the folder. Using an XP machine, it takes
about 45 seconds.

Could someone please tell me why browsing for files on our NT Server
using Windows 2000 Pro is so much quicker than with Windows XP Pro? Is
there a way to lessen the time for XP?

I do not think it is a networking problem because between the XP
workstations and the server, I have gigabit (1000 mbps) NIC's and a
gigabit switch. For the 2000 workstations, I only have 100 mbps NIC's.

If someone could help me with this problem, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
j.t.w

Jerold,

Thank you for your response. Though, I'm going to need a little more
help as I've never have done anything like this.

1) Do I just copy and paste the lines into a notepad text file and
save as "WANSpeed.reg"?

2) How I do run "regedit /s WANSpeed.reg"? Where does the WANSpeed.reg
file need to be located?

Again, thanks for you help.

P.S. I've used jsiinc.com in the past and it is a wonderful resource.
I also noticed your initials. Is that what the js in jsiinc.com stands
for?

Save as WANSPeed.txt and rename to Wanspeed.reg.
Then double-click Wanspeed.reg insteas of using the step 2.

2) How I do run "regedit /s WANSpeed.reg"? Where does the WANSpeed.reg
