This problem appeared a few days ago on my Athlon 2800+ PC running XP Pro and
SP2 having been installed successfully some weeks ago.

Renaming or deleting new or existing folders causes Windows Explorer (WE) to
error and close with the statement 'The instruction 0x0395415b referenced
memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate
or Cancel to Debug'

The problem does not occur when using Internet Explorer to create or modify
the same folders on my hard drive that cause WE to crash.

I have looked at various forums but cannot find a solution to this specific
problem. I don't believe this to be a RAM issue as there are no errors
occuring from other RAM intensive applications being run on this PC. Also, I
have disabled the Adobe Photoshop 7 thumbnail generation feature.

Can anyone please offer any useful ideas?

Sorry about the repeat threads. When submitting my original question, I kept
getting back a message that there was a problem with the server, try again!
