"My Pictures" folder renamed upon move to desktop |
|
|
Because I use it so much, I wanted to put the folder "My Pictures" on the
desktop to reduce the steps of getting to it , so I moved it to the desk
top. THEN, I realized that all I needed to do was create a shortcut on the
desktop so I wanted to put it back into the "My Documents " Folder. I found
that when the folder landed on the desktop, it renamed itself as
"Administrator's Pictures" and I can't rename the folder back to "My
Pictures", no matter what I try. When renaming it, it does not hold. I've
right clicked & renamed it, gone into properties and changed it there, and
renamed the icon. I tried to create a new folder in My Documents for it but
the new "My Pictures" cannot be found by the Media Center program. This is
now a main reason to get the folder back to it's original name and placement
so that Media Center and whatever program can locate it where they expect it
to be. Media Center seems to point to the previously named "My Pictures". Did
the original "My Pictures" have a hidden engine in it? Does Media Center
specifically point to the older version in the My Documents folder? How do I
get the "Administrator's Pictures" back into the My Documents folder with the
name of My Pictures so that Media Center (or what other programs) can locate
it again? The "Administrator's Pictures" file is sitting on the
desktop....waiting.
Help......thanks for any help |

Thanks for answering Wes!
I went to douglasthrift.net website as recommended by Wes. The problem I
was having was addressed there. It told me to fix the desktop.ini file. It
said to open the file in question and type desktop.ini in the address bar.
Well, I didn’t have one, so I went to View>Toolbars and checked address
bar….and then it appeared. So I typed \desktop.ini at the end of what was
already in the address bar and pressed enter as told. Up came Notepad with
the exact script (?) that was posted for My Pictures by Douglas Thrift, as
follows .
My Pictures
[DeleteOnCopy]
Owner=Douglas Thrift
Personalized=39
PersonalizedName=My Pictures
[.ShellClassInfo]
InfoTip=@Shell32.dll,-12688
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\System32\mydocs.dll
IconIndex=-101
I compared the My Music folder with the like script posted and several
others and they were right on target. Then Douglas says
“Note: When the text of one of these files contains Douglas Thrift replace
it with your own user name.”
On my computer, where it says Owner, mine says “Administrator” which is what
“My Pictures” is calling itself=”Administrator’s Picture” Everything else
is exactly the same. To make sure that I had the correct username, I right
clicked on “My Computer" and on system properties looked at where it says
:"Registered to:” When I bought my computer, the techs at the store set it
up and they typed what I believe to be the serial number there. Is this my
official username?
I did not change anything. I don’t see how changing the Owner name is going
to change the name of “Administrator’s Pictures” back to “My Pictures”…what
should I do? Thanks for any help ! |
