incorrect parameter msg |
|
|
Hi-
I use Windows XP professional.
I'm trying to copy an mdb file from a CD to my hard drive. When I
make the attempt I get this message:
ERROR COPYING FILE OR FOLDER:
Cannot copy "filename": The parameter is incorrect.
What is this about? I have copied hundreds of files in the past with
no trouble. I am not issuing a command with any parameter switches,
just using copy & paste to do the job. I have also tried using Window
Explorer's built-in copy button with the same resulting error message.
Does it have to do with the way the file was burned to CD on the
source computer?
As a test, I popped in another CD and copied an mdb file with no
trouble. So what is with this error message and this one particular
CD? The filename that I am copying has an apostrophe in it. It
copied okay from the source computer to the CD (on a Win 2000 system).
I have tried looking up this error message in the MSKB, but didn't
find any articles pertaining to it.
Anyone with experience on this? |

Try same disk, another machine. An apostrophe may not be an illegal
character but I would refrain from using them in file names.

Sorry Dave, didn't mean to reply to you personally. I can try that disk on
another machine, when I have access to one, but...Can you or anyone tell me
what the error message means?

More than likely the file and or disk is corrupt/damaged.

It was a corrupt disk. I used a "rescue" utility to get the file, which had
been written to a bad sector. The data looks fine.
