ISSCC 2005, 6-10 Feb 2005

Presentations:

-A Streaming Processing Unit for a CELL Processor (STI)
-The Design and Implementation of a First-Generation CELL Processor (STI)
-A Double-Precision Multiplier with Fine-Grained Clock Gating Support for a
First-Generation CELL Processor (IBM)
-A 4.8GHz Fully Pipelined Embedded SRAM in the Streaming Processor of a CELL
Processor (STI)
-Clocking and Circuit Design for a Parallel I/O on a First-Generation CELL
Processor (Rambus)

There are some further details, I am not 100% sure if got them right, so
beware:

-Operation of the 16TFLOPS rack prototype will be demo'd
-The manufacturing process of announced CELL SOI technology will be 90nm,
not 65nm.
-Three of five announcements are done by STI.
-IBM starts CELL trial production for workstations in the first half of
2005.
-CELL powered home server (Sony) by the end of 2006.
-CELL powered HDTV display (Sony, Toshiba) by the end of 2006.

[some of the information on that site is bound to be incorrect but anyway,
the ISSCC is where Playstation3's CPU is bound to be revealed, much like
ISSCC 1999 where PS2 CPU was revealed. not the *entire* PS2/PS3 chipset as
that came/will come in MARCH, but the CPU.]

Of course not! Cygnus/Radeon/Xenon/etc is mainly a bulk reposter
of other people's content. I would wager that if he was restricted to
only reproducing content he understood, he would not be nearly as
prolific.

Unless I've overlooked something, there's nothing new here. This is a
summary of info that's been available in patents for quite some time
now.

Paul Zimmons put together some powerpoints that hit the highlights
quickly. His webpage is gone, but google should turn up a nice
selection of gaming websites that have proudly hosted the files locally
as if it was some sort of exclusive info.

Are you saying that the Cell processor has some type of IL (
intermediate language ) that is universal for all Operating systems?

NO - you are suggesting that by not drawing any reference to the actual
creator or source of the article that YOU posted.

xenon apparently plagiarised the article from Mr Nicholas Blachford:

Since you didn't credit anyone else (or post it as a link), it's either
that or plagiarism. I took the approach of assuming the lesser evil.

You'll have to forgive Xenon. Aside from cutting and pasting about a
terabyte's worth of crap per day, he often doesn't even bother providing the
source. He's like the Bizarro World version of a regular poster, who simply
pastes a link and lets you decide for yourself if you want to read it. Xenon
wants you to read it, but often doesn't bother telling you where it came
from.
