Hi Gurus,

My system is redhat linux advanced server 2.1 , 4 itanium 64 cpus and
emc symmetrix. I have one host bus adapter connected via fibre channel
to emc disk array. Although i have two host bus adapter , i can only
use one of these cards because emc powerpath has no version for ia64.
My question is : do i need powerpath software in order to use my
second hba? As i read the documents its an application with load
balancing etc . Isnt it possible to use my second card without these
capabilities ? Or is there any other sofware that i can use on ia64?

Kind Regards,
hope

I guess it depends on what you want to use it for, if you want to load
balance I/O from both cards to the same LUN, or do failover from interface
to the other, then you'll need something like Powerpath. If you want to
server a second LUN from the Symm to your LINUX box and use the second I/F,
then shouldn't be a problem.
