We're looking at replacing an ancient Clariion, and adding more servers to the
mix. I'm looking for about 1 TB of storage split between 5 servers. We don't
push any of them very hard, so I'm leaning towards iSCSI.

The IBM DS300 looks _really_ good. Most of the other smaller units I've looked
at have one or two of the following disadvantages:

1. Four disks. Yeah, I guess you _can_ run RAID5 on four disks, but if you
use one for a hot spare, it means that you're basically using only half your
disk space for storage. I like lots of disks; the DS300 has 14.

2. SATA. Sorry, but I don't quite trust SATA yet. And since I only need a
terabyte, I can put 9 147Gb SCSI disks in the DS300 and have a TB with a hot
spare and five slots for expansion.

Anyone have any experience with the DS300? Anyone got any other
recommendations?

Thanks much...

"No one ever got fired for buying IBM."

True enough words. And if it fits your needs then go for it. And IBM
is one of the few mfg's that has native iSCSI arrays, though I don't
know if the DS300 is one of them.
