I took 3 DSP courses in university but all our projects/labs were done using
matlab. I would like to gain some more practical dsp experience. I have used
a c6211 kit in the past to do some dsp programming in my spare time. I am
thinking about buying a used c6211 starter kit. Is this kit worth buying or
should I buy the more recent c6711 or c6713 dsk.

Bob, I think the 67x is a floating-point processor while the 62x is fixed-point.
You might want to choose your dsk based on the type of arithmetic you want to
use and/or gain experience in.

Bob,

I recommend you go for a new 6713 DSK. Here's why:

1) A much newer version of Code Composer Studio will come with it compared
to what you'd get with someone's old 6211. That will save you a LOT of
headaches to have a more stable coding environment and more debugging
capabilities.

2) The 6713 is a superset of the 6211. That is, anything that you could do
on the 6211 you could still do on the 6713. However, the 6713 has the added
capability of doing floating point with dedicated hardware.

3) The 6713 has a lot more internal RAM (I think 256 k bytes vs 64 k).
It's much easier to develop without having to worry about running out of
memory.

Brad
