A couple of major 'realignments' have taken place lately at Intel
concerning IPF projects.

- a couple of important people left the Tukwila team
- Intel buys the HP IPF team
- now it appears that the Tukwila team is taken of the project, the
system interface is going to be used, but the core is going to be
designed by the Fort Collins team. It is claimed that that team tried
to get this job for two years now.

Why? Can anyone shed some light on what is really going on here? I can
imagine that the former DEC people must really be pissed off by now.

Looks like according this other article, that there was a little war on
between two groups of former HP engineering teams. Tukwila was
originally designed by the Alpha guys in Massachusetts, but it now looks
like it will be designed by the PA-RISC guys in Colorado. Here's a quote:

Quote:
The HP Fort Collins team, it has emerged, had tried to kill the Alpha Tukwila as long ago as two years, and visited Massachusetts armed with numbers showing the design ran too hot and wouldn't get anywhere near the performance it wanted.

Well, I'm glad to hear that those people reassigned from Tukwila will
still have jobs. Whatever it is they will be working on.
