Homework questions, nice idea.... |
|
|
The peer recognition of a "GOOD" homework answer in comp.arch normally
would giveaway the expected grade for the answer.
Now I'd rather see a convention that peer recognition for answers would
be given as a BLAMING he for breaking the comp.arch tradition of giving
wrong answers and telling him that the he should give students wrong
answers instead of correct ones. Of course this would teach new comers
the old rules. And give more credibility for good answers in eyes of
student.
Perhaps by cut pasting following: Which I cut pasted from googled
archives mostly. Of course if its really good you should give blame in
more creative way and customize it according how much blame he/she
deserves for such an answer ;)
Many people in this newsgroup used to get really annoyed at first year CS
architecture students posting exam or homework questions to the newsgroup,
expecting busy professionals to do their homework for them. After all,
that's why they have textbooks and instructors. Inappropriate homework
questions can often be identified by the trivial nature of their answers
and/or by a collection of unrelated topics. Since there are thousands of
new people taking CS courses every year, if even a tiny fraction ask
questions on the Internet, the regular newsgroup readers get very tired
of the questions. So PLEASE don't give them correct answers to them, I
understand that you didn't realize it before but please be more careful
next time.

I just a had brilliantly stupid idea, given what Google is doing to
fxxx up the NG service and given the famous Google SW contests & their
supposed super intelligence req for joining them, maybe Google could
automatically do students HW too by doing some back searches and text
analysis the way they do semi relevant adverts.
It would be fun to watch the machines come up with the answers, it will
all end up with a "press button here to get degree":-)
just wasting time

It would be particularly good if it could be persuaded to come up
with the answers that a few of us have given. They are perfectly
correct in context, but the context is not that of the course, and
they are so heretical that they would obviously be cheating.
What is more, any student that bothers too look them up will learn
something, so they are not even unfair to students asking about
things that are not coursework :-)
