Where to start? I have an IBM x236 serverwith a IBM (seagate) DDS5 (DAT72)
drive in it running on SBS 2003. Windows has recognised the hardware no
problem,
but it will not write to the media no matter what I try. had IBM out to it
and they changed the drive, but still got the same problem. Have installed the
latest storport driver and no change. Have cleaned the drive a million times
(maybe a slight exageration). I'm in the process of downloading SP1 right
now, but I'm not holding out much hope. IBM have said to update the bios, but
I don't hink this will make a difference (apart from that it's yet another
IBM 400Mb+ download that takes over 2 hours to get). any help would be much
appreciated

Just incase anyone else comes across this problem I have the solution!
Turns out that the ServeRAID BIOS although very current needed a specific
update to V 7.10.23 from 7.10.18. Updated the BIOS and BINGO!!

Hi matthew,

so far so good,

how do you access the drive for writing? using any backup software?
usually veritas or arcserve for e.g. has its own drivers and you'll be
prompted while setup
to choose this. best practise is to do so.

ok, in some cases the original IBM driver ist only to use by setting up the
tapedrive for backups inside windows.
such as ntbackup for e.g.
after installing this kind of drivers, you wont be able to use any other
driver of backup SW.
therefore you can only reinstall the server or try to find a driver cleanup
tool. (I dont know any).

for a bios update?? 400MB's seems to be something else...!?

you can also try a firmware-update. this sometimes makes wonder ;-)

greets, steve
