Hi,

Our SAN run over two locations (10 kilometers), one is humanless, the
other is near my desk.

Now I am looking for SAN-DVD-drive for 2 reasons:
1. booting machines from CD/DVD (CD/DVD here, machine there)
2. creating boot images on DVD

Are there native fibrechannel DVD-RW drives or scsi-fc bridges not
specially for tapes (like IBM 2108-XXX)?

Thanks in advance.

Andy

Interesting question. Not sure how cost effective such a setup would be, it
may be easier to just send someone over when the need for a DVD/CD boot
arises.

If you really want to go ahead, then you probably want to look at generic
Brocade, Atto or Bridgeworks SCSI-FC bridges. I have never encountered a
native FC DVD player and even SCSI ones are not easy to find.

As far as I know there are no native fibre channel DVD drives. The
market for SCSI CD/DVD drives in general has been shrinking the last
couple of years.

ATTO Technology http://www.attotech.com sells generic FC - SCSI bridges
but they are rather pricey. My company Infrastor Tech Corp
http://www.infrastor.com is a reseller / integrator of this kind of
technology.

We do have a used 1GB unit in stock if you were interested.

If you have a Linux server and qlogic FC HBA you may try the storage
server software MayaStor from http://www.pavitrasoft.com/downloads/

It supports FC-SCSI bridging as one of its features. If you prefer
you may use ISCSI also for bridging.

Andreas,

If you use an iSCSI-based SAN you could try StarWind iSCSI server
software to share DVD devices as iSCSI targets.

For more details please take a look at:
