Good System Architecture Sites? |
|
|
I am researching topics for my next boot camp courseware. Does anyone
care to share their favorite computer architecture sites links?
thanks,

There is a tremendous amount of computer architecture information online |
at the IBM publications site and the IBM redbook site. Might not be what
you are looking for however.
Actually the origin and evolution of the 360 and followons would make a
pretty interesting study. And Lynn Wheeler saw most of it. A lot of the
old manuals and stuff are still around.

besides the ibm sites there are sites that are scanning old manuals.
http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/
http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/ibm/
http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/ibm/360/
http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/ibm/370/
the above has both old 360 and 370 principles of operation ... which
give detailed description of instructions and machine operation.
what hasn't shown up is the architecture redbook (not relationship to
redbooks published for customer consumption). starting in the late 60s
or so, this was done in cms script and was about twice the size of the
principle of operations .... script command invokation controlled
whether the full architecture redbook was output or just the
principles of operation subset was output. the redbook had all sort of
engineering notes, background justification for instructions, various
trade-off considerations, etc.
a more recent copy of the principles of operation is the
Z/architecture printciples of operation

I looked at the site she is talking about. It appears to be about IT
architecture, not computer architecture directly.

She specifically asked for "computer architecture" and you are telling me |
she is to stupid to know what she wants? And has not replied to
anything? I hope nobody takes the architecture bootcamp. Last time I
was in bootcamp, the DIs knew what they were training. |

I'd be happy to add it, if you still have a copy :-)
trailing-edge.com might not be the best mirror to use.
I think classiccmp.org has more bandwidth available.
The full list of mirrors is on the main bitsavers.org page. |
