Best way to setup a large amount of storage |
|
|
I currently use clustered Win2K3w/SP1 servers on a XioTech SAN for my Shared
and Home folder storage. We intend to start using roaming profiles, and, I
figure I'll need 4-6 TB for my 1200 users.
I originally setup an array of 750 GB, and, am wondering the best strategy
to increase this--should I just make it bigger (up to 4 TB or whatever the
upper Win2K3 limit is), or, should I use multiple ~1 TB arrays?
I've played around with using DiskPart, and, it seems to work well in
increasing the volume size, after I "grow" the array...
Thanks. |

Win2k3SP1 can go to 256TB per LUN _if_ the underlying controllers, storage,
& drivers support it. You'd need to check w/the specific vendors on their
support.
As to the size of each LUN, that really depends. The larger the LUN, the
longer the maintenance (backup/restore, etc.). Multiple 1TB arrays,
leveraging DFS is a good tradeoff and would more likely to survive an
outage - i.e. if you lost 1 LUN, the others would continue to run fine.

CommVault. We have a tape library that does Full backups nightly, and, we
take them offsite the next day.
