Can anyone comment or point out any test data on the effect of volume
spanning and performance?

Is there performance degradation due to spanning one logical volume over two
RAID 5 arrays vs. creating a single volume on each array? In either case the
array is controlled by a single channel of a dual channel SCSI controller.

I understand Windows will fill up one array before moving on to the next.
Assuming the drives get pretty full and are hit pretty hard (These are
hosting very busy and very large Domino databases) will either configuration
improve or degrade system performance?

I can find nothing indicating this is good, bad or nutral, and I could
really use some guidance on this.

Thanks,

Mike

Performance is less of a concern than the potential for data loss. When you
use a spanned volume if you lose either - you lose both. A single volume on
each array would also perform better than spanning the two.
