Hi, I am an undergraduate computer engineering student.I'm interested in the area of computer architecture. All I have made so far is a simple CPU which was actually an example in some random book but I think it was useful for a newbie like me. I wrote the VHDL code and implemented it on a spartan 3 fpga.
I should start writing a proposal for my final year design project next week and I need your suggestions. What should the next step be noting that I have basic computer architecture knowledge and zero background on assembler/compiler design. But I am willing to study anything independently since that's what i've been doing for the last couple of years.
My idea is to implement a CPU like Sparc or ARM but I am too newbie to take a decision like this, I don't know how huge the obstacle I'll face in the process are.Maybe a subset of these architecture is more possible with a simple assembler?
I'd be grateful if someone here could tell me what to do.

Hi Dear
I m also a Computer Engineering Student and i m my final semester.Advanced Computer Archetecture is my major, So I have added u in my hotmail account to discuss about it some times (if u never mind Smile )
Secondly about your project proposal the next step that i will suggest is to get overview of different processor archetectures.I feel that it is a good idea totake this project but first u should decide some application to fit ur processor... for example my final year project is to "Design a Gaming Console" in which designing of cpu is obviously a major part ...and so i have more clear understanding that what kind of cpu i have to design (as application is before me)...i m working with VHDL and using Spartan-2 FPGA ...
Will meet u soon on msn messenger(fahadislam2002@hotmail.com)
