Does anyone know what specific IPv6 support was added to the version 2.0
release of the iSCSI Initiator?

As far as I can tell the graphical control panel does not appear to support
the use of IPv6 numeric addresses. So how does one connect to an IPv6 based
iSCSI target device?

Specifying a hostname for target portal dsicovery results in connection
attempts using IPv4. Is it possible for Netbios and DHCP to provide IPv6
addressees?

The last thing to try is setting up a DNS server and then specifying a DNS
name for discovery. Does the MS DNS server support IPv6?

The iSCSI 2.0 core components and control panel applet do support IPv6. In
the advanced settings login page select Microsoft iSCSI Initiator as the
Local adapter and then look at the drop down list boxes for Source IP and
Target Portal. If your initiator or target support IPv6 then the drop down
box will have IPv6 addresses listed.

Note that IPv6 is optional functionality in Windows Server 2003 on the
initiator side and your target must report IPv6 addresses via SendTargets or
iSNS.

One suggestion to try is to use the command line iscsicli addTarget command
to manually add a target and its IPv6 address and not use SendTargets or
iSNS. Then when you login to that target the initiator service will only
have the IPv6 target portal and will thus try to use it.

Alan,

Good stuff !!! I hadn't noticed that the Source IP pull-down was
changing after selecting the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator under Local Adapter.
I guess the interface was unclear to me but it all makes sense now.

BTW, everything is working fine with IPv6.

Thanks,
Bill
