DOS Prompt problem |
|
|
I goto start > run > (type:) command
get to dosprompt
i type any ping (example) www.google.com
as soon as i hit enter
my dos prompt just closes
it doesnt even quickly post ping results or anything
just closes and im back at windows screen
any idea why?
also, im on highspeed through a speedstream 6500 modem/router
this system is set to sit in the DMZ of the modem/router
all network options according to my ISP are set correctly
i get the internet and certain internet applications working fine
however certain server based games will not load
i can get trace routes from some of the games/apps reports which show that
the connection app for the game or app is finding the server fine
it appears that once i make contact with the game/app server that it can not
communicate with my system
why might this be?
any help on either of the two questions would be great

Try cmd.exe the native command interpreter.

All fixed now, thought id reply in case anyone else has similar problems. As to the connection issues with game/app servers, Im still not to sure what caused that but a restore corrected it.
The command/regedit etc not working was the "Win32.Alcan.D" Worm. |
It makes .com files such as cmd, regedit etc. When we dont type the full
filename in the RUN bar the system first assumes its a .com extension before
..exe and since the worm made bad .com mimics of the original and labeled them
as system files thats actually what was being loaded.
More info on the worm at
