How do I determine what programs are accessing a file on a Windows 2000
machine? I have one machine on my network that will not allow me to backup an
Outlook 2003 .pst file because the file is open by another program?

Hi,

this will not help, if the file is accessed locally on that machine.

For this you can try the Freeware tool filemon.exe from

www.sysinternals.com.

seth,

thank you but Outlook's .pst file is not a shared file.

No add ins that I am aware of other than the Outlook Backup plugin which has
caused no problems on any other machines. Never totally sure with users.
Outlook has been shutting down correctly. I rebooted the machine and it has
been working OK so far. Do you know of any windows utility that will tell me
what program is accessing any given file?
