Gateway M275 (Tablet) vs. SMS |
|
|
Has anyone experienced problems with Gateway M275s (or TabletPCs in general)
dropping off the network for no apparent reason?
I can usually get the victim computer back on with IPCONFIG /release and
/renew, but this is annoying to users (and to me who has to fix it!). I've
identified a partial fix as removing SMS and then reinstalling. The
computer will then go along merrily for a while, then go stupid again. The
issue is particularly prevalent after the computer has been off the network
for a couple of days, like over a weekend.
We have three of these M275s, and all misbehave the same way. 99 percent of
my organization consists of Dells...they don't have this problem.

Might you have conflicting networking devices active? Check to make sure
only the one you're using is active. The others can be disabled, without
uninstalling. Are you running Windows XP SP2 and Tablet PC Edition 2005
with the latest networking software, and have you downloaded the latest
drivers for the devices? Without knowing how your network setup, it is hard
to generalize a "cure."
