recently i had to reformat and reinstall xp home. due to problems with
crashes and also a issue with the activation. 3 weeks ago i had the mb
swapped out in a new system i had built because the original dell fried the
mb. it was cheaper to have a new system built. they used what components were
useable from the dell. since it was a new system they went ahead and
reformatted and reinstalled windows for me. they also axctivated it for me as
well. before i jus redone the reinstall, 4 days ago i was experiencing some
crashes and a popup asking me to activate. i hit it and it said i was already
activated. so when the count got down to 3 days and some more crashes i
decided to reformat and reinstall myself. all was as it should be. the 30 day
countdown popup and all. i installed most of my software and was getting the
windows updates. when i was done with the last 4 critical/high priority
updates i rebooted and i got a popup saying windows was activated. i never
went through the activation procedure. and i still get the countdown popup
asking me to activate. and when i hit it it tells me its already activated.
so whats up with that? and when i did the reinstall, it never asked me for
the windows key. and i have found out that the windows key and the pid
numbers have changed. they are not the ones that were originally there. whats
up with that too? so why is it still giving me the popup countdown for
activation and saying its already activated when i hit it? anyone know? i
cant get ms to help me since this os disk came with my dell, which is now no
longer. this didnt happen on the other mb they had installed in this new
system. they had to swap it out cause i found out it was the wrong board. no
support for the p4 800fsb. they got me a intel d865perl board which supported
the 800 fsb. and thats when this activation thing occured 3 weeks after they
had swapped out the board. so the questions are, why is it now giving me the
activation popups and it is already activated, and why are my windows key and
pid number changed?

Cross-post when necessary, but never multi-post. Cross-posting is when you
include two or more groups in the "Newsgroups:" section. In this scenario
the message and all responses are seen in all groups that the message was
cross-posted to. In other words any replies will automatically propagate to
the other newsgroup posts.

Multi-posting is when you post the same message to two or more groups
individually. In this scenario the message is seen in the groups it is
posted to, but the responses are only seen attached to the message (unless
you cross-post the reply) in which the response was made. So those that
frequent these groups then need to deal with or re-read the posts. It may
seem like a small thing to keep track of. But some of us actively traverse
50 or more groups. The poster also then must search out all of the posts to
see if there was a response.
