What's with this company? Is it real?
http://www.massivelyparallel.com/

It seems to be raising some questions here
http://www.primidi.com/2005/01/22.html#a1086
on Roland Pipuepaille's Technology Trends blog

The press release from Massively Parallel claims
Dr Amdahl is on their "board of advisors".

Sounds like a bit like the Adams video compression platform.
Hope, hype and not much reality.

Melbourne.

Technology experts have long been skeptical of Adams Platform and its claims
to be able to send high-quality video down a normal telephone line.
Clark first publicised the technology in 1998, to a torrent of criticism.
The algorithms at the heart of his invention, which supposedly
compress data by a factor of 1000, would have to break the laws o
f physics to work. And the invention has been shrouded in secrecy, with
strictly controlled demonstrations of the technology and no patent
applications lodged until last Decembe

On September 8, Adam Clark plummeted from contention as one of Australia?s
richest young entrepreneurs. The company in which he owns about 400 million shares, M
edia World Communications (whose shares were suspended from trading on the ASX in 2001),
failed to relist on the Australian Stock Exchange, citing problems with the
?Adams Platform? video compression technology that Clark sold to the company.
His shares are probably worthless and a pack of angry investors is chasing
him for answers. (Clark did not return BRW?s calls after Media World failed to relist.)

ADAM Clark, who sold allegedly bogus video compression technology to Media World Communications,
is again being sued, this time by the company's shareholders in a $35 million class action.

I couldn't find the word "patent" on that site.

Copyright protection only works if the software is very complicated and
expensive to write. Fundamentally new ways of doing things get patented
because once the idea is in place, replication is not that difficult.

If all they've got is a big complicated software program, I wouldn't
touch them with a barge pole - let along an investment.

There's nothing in the USPTO database, exisiting or submitted patents,

for either Kevin Howard or James Lupo, the two who did the Howard-Lupo
manifold. There could be patents by someone else or they're keeping it
all secret at this point.

In the circumstances, I think I'll stick with the idea that it's all hype.
